Photo Collage
For this assignment, we needed to create a photo collage. This page is comprised of photos I took in San Francisco. I wanted to create a collage of photos with exaggerated saturation to create a Nostalgic and childlike view of the city.
I used photoshop to mask specific photos to make a stick like appearance. For each photo I adjusted hue/saturation and increased the brightness. Then i added a handwritten font with uneven rectangles to make the letters stand out.
Social Media Profile
The goal for this assignment was to create a brand now social media platform using photoshop and illustrator. I used photos of my dog and my sister as the subjects and created a platform that you can customize yourself, and post photos to your page.
I used photoshop to edit each photo with different brightness and saturation to make the photos look as if they were taken over time. I designed the page to have bright colors contrasting with a black background. When this page is viewed on a phone, the background changes to your pages chosen color, while on a computer screen you can see dotted bubbles behind your photos.
Movie Poster and Memes
For this assignment, we created a movie poster and memes using photos we have taken. I chose to create a horror movie poster based on the scream films. For the memes, I wanted to use my cat, dog, and a goat as my subjects to talk about real life situations.
For the movie poster, I uses photoshop to layer two images together, one of the girl looking into the mirror and one of her with a paper mask on. I used the brush tool to add details and changed the lighting to make it appear darker. Then I chose creepy fonts and changed the colors to resemble a poster found outside of a theater.
For the memes, I based the style off a traditional meme. I used impact font and layered photos in photoshop to create unique images. I masked photos of the animals to place them in new locations and adjusted saturation on each. I also used features like liquify, fire, and opacity to add more effects to my images.
Album Covers
The goal of this assignment was to create our own album covers. I wanted to create three distinctly different albums to resemble different music I like.
For the first album, I wanted to create an alternative, punk rock style of music. I masked my cat and layered three different photos of him and made him black and white. Then I selected the bowl and person to change the saturation and color scheme to make it neon. Then I used a punk rock font.
For the second album, I wanted to create an indie style album. I took photos of my friend and cut out portions of her face with different emotions to show different parts of one person that creates the whole. I wanted the entire album to be shades of purple, so I altered the hue and saturation of each layer and added a bold font.
For my last album, it was styled as a country album. I used photos of my cat and added masked photos of a guitar and cowboy hat to express the country feeling. I also placed him in a vineyard, and I created a sunset in the back using gradients.
Vehicle Advertising
The goal of this assignment was to create a vehicle advertisement. I wanted to create a car ad for a kia soul in the style of expensive electric cars. I wanted neon colors and bold fonts to express the features of the vehicle.
Using photoshop, I created a layered image of the car making the back image have a lighter opacity, while the car in front is bold and clear. For the larger ads I featured the car at different angles with a green and blue overlay on the entire image. I used a bold font and neon effects to make portions stand out. For the smaller ads, I featured more of a close up on the entire car and made the car seem as if it was driving by. I kept the information light because it is more about expressing the car as a whole, and make people want to look further into the details.
Batman Calendar
The goal of this assignment was to create a fluent calendar using edited photos and unique page layout. For my design, I created a lego batman themed calendar. I wanted to alternate months from batman to joker to keep it interesting.
For the photos, I took pictures of lego figurines I had in different positions and poses and placed them into photos taken in Chicago, which is where Gotham city is placed in the dc film world.
I masked each photo of the lego figures and edited the color and brightness to fit them in their new surroundings. I also added digital features using the brush tool and glow effects.
The video was created on adobe express. I animated the page layouts and added shapes which I animated to fit the batman style within the lego batman films.
Book and Magazine Cover
The goal of this assignment was to create a book cover and a magazine cover. I wanted to create a horror styled novel and a New York times styled magazine.
For the book, I used a photo from my friend as a child and used effects like opacity and outer glow to create a ghostly like presence. I them overlayed this over an image taken in the Alcatraz prison to create a haunted hospital scene for my cover. I used a purple color overlay and horror font to add to the effect.
For the magazine, I created a ghostbusters themed magazine that updates the public about ghostbuster news. I took a photo from the fire station from the film and masked a photo of a roller coaster to make it look like it is going through the building. I changed the brightness and also added a bird flying by. I chose a bold, yet professional font to make it look like a real magazine cover.
Video Game Concept art
The goal of this assignment was to create a work of art using photos. I wanted to create a piece based on post-apocalyptic world video games.
I wanted to combine photos I've taken from Greece and San Francisco to create an overgrown world. First I inserted my photos and masked each to create a new landscape with broken down features. Then, I wanted to layer painted aspects to resemble video game art, so I used a variety of brush tools to add a glow and painterly effect. I used the overlay feature to add glow and added a glow effect to the stars in the sky.
As an artist I have always been inspired by digital art and wanted to try out my own perspective of the apocalypse. This piece is my first step to dive into the world of concept art and create a new world to fall into as a gamer. For me, this will be a new way of looking at photography and the power that the adobe photoshop application holds for digital artists.
